What's the difference between Flaky Smoked Salmon and ordinary smoked smoked?
Ordinary, or traditional, smoked salmon is cured in cold smoke and is still effectively raw when you eat it. Flaky Smoked Salmon is completely different, it is cooked and smoked at the same time, our unique kiln and smoking process give it its absolutely delicious taste and succulent texture.How does it come, is it sliced?
Flaky Smoked Salmon is either a whole side or a portion of a side of salmon, depending on the weight. It is not sliced and it will not slice thinly like traditional cold smoked salmon, however you can cut it into serving portions or break it into pieces or flakes to serve it. The best way to cut it into portions is to place it at the bottom of the fridge to get it really cold and then cut it into your serving slices using a sharp knife.Why is it brown?
Flaky Smoked Salmon is brown on the surface and succulent salmon pink inside. The brown is the tasty, smoky outer layer.What is its shelf-life?
The shelf-life of the packs of Flaky Smoked Salmon is six weeks.Can it be frozen?
Yes, Flaky Smoked Salmon can be frozen for up to six months.How much should I use for a starter or main course?
For a starter use between about 40g and 100g per person, depending on whether you are serving Flaky Smoked Salmon, for example, in flakes scattered over a bed of salad or as a slice from the fillet. For a main course allow about 120g - 150g per person.Can you warm it through?
Definitely! Flaky Smoked Salmon is to die for if it is served warm. Just wrap it in lightly oiled foil and pop it in a warm oven whilst you prepare the rest of the dish.What weight is a side of Smoked Salmon?

UK deliveries usually take 1 or 2 working days and overseas takes longer, depending on the destination (please contact us if you would like information about a particular country).Do I need to be at home to receive it and what happens if I'm out when the parcel arrives?
Parcels of Flaky Smoked Salmon will not fit through a letter box so if you are not in to receive the parcel the postman will leave a card advising you that you should collect it from your local depot. (You must go to collect it, the postman will not try to deliver it a second time.)Can you send to a business address?
No problem!Does it have to be kept chilled?
Salar Flaky Smoked Salmon is a sterile food product which is vacuum packed. It is a very safe food product and as long as the pack has not been opened it is quite safe outside a fridge for 2 or 3 days. You should store your Flaky Smoked Salmon in a fridge and, of course, once the pack has been opened you definitely should keep it in the fridge. But this really depends on your will power - we hear from many people of the addictiveness of Flaky Smoked Salmon and how, once the pack is opened, they just can't stop eating it!Flaky Smoked Salmon is despatched from South Uist in insulated boxes which keep the temperature low during transit.
